Hello world!

wlpoty-1

Now in it’s 52nd year, the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2016 exhibition has opened at the Natural History Museum in London, featuring winning images from the prestigious competition that this year attracted a staggering 50,000 entrants from 95 countries across the globe.

The exhibition showcases Earth’s most extraordinary sights; reflecting nature’s beauty and diversity and highlighting the fragility of wildlife on our planet.  Metro is proud once again, to have produced the Duratrans prints for the exhibition, which are viewed in sleek back-lit light panels and make up a striking collection of 100 images.

The winner of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2016 was awarded to American photographer Tim Laman, for his image Entwined Lives which features a critically endangered Bornean orangutan above the Indonesian rainforest.  Spending 3 days rope-climbing the 30 metre tree Tim set up several GoPro cameras that he could trigger remotely, capturing the orangutan’s face from above, within a wide-angle perspective of the forest below.

Sixteen-year-old Gideon Knight from the UK won the Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2016, for his image The Moon and the Crow.  Shot near his home in London it shows a crow perched on the twigs of a sycamore tree, silhouetted against the blue dusk sky and the full Moon.  Gideon commented ‘makes it feel almost supernatural, like something out of a fairy tale,’

The exhibition commences a UK and international tour in 2017 to inspire millions of people across the world to appreciate and conserve the natural world.
