Fine Art Printing

Our fine art printing service is a great way to produce editions or reproductions of your paintings, illustrations or artworks. We can mount your prints, or produce handmade frames for your artwork.

We print on a wide range of papers from Hahnemuhle, Canson and Somerset, and use Ultrachrome Archival Pigment inks for all of our Giclée printing, to sizes up to 150cm x 210cm, regardless of the service level chosen.

While people often associate Art printing with Giclee prints, inkjet on watercolour paper, many renowned and respected Artists also print on photographic C type paper, or silver based Black & White Fibre paper.

An additional service we offer at Metro, we call ‘Direct to Media’ printing, see a test here on YouTube for David Bailey where we can print directly on to any flat material.

    Mounting and framing

Fine art prints can be made directly from a digital file where appropriate. However if the original artwork is a drawing or painting a high resolution digital file will need to be produced first. At Metro we can produce scans from flat material up to 17.5 x 11.5 inches in size, or from flexible material up to 18.5 x 26.5 inches. Above these sizes, for example large paintings, a high quality and high resolution digital photograph will need to be taken.

Printing should always be with an archival method. This could include one of the Giclee papers  , Black & White Silver Gelatin or Chromagenic C-Type papers.

While art prints on watercolour paper can be signed on the border using a pencil, or for photographic prints with a permanent marker, often these methods are then obscured once the print is mounted or framed. To combat this, a certificate of authenticity can be supplied by you with the artwork. Often this certificate is just a standalone piece of art paper, signed with the edition name and number, but in the case of Hahnemuhle certificates, a small holographic sticker is supplied.  Metro also supply certificates of authenticity which are included within the price of our Bespoke premier service, or can be supplied for an additional cost on our other services.
