Free Range Shows: Futureproof by TPG Develop
Government cuts to the creative sector, as well as rising tuition fees, push young artists to seek out new routes into work and find alternative spaces to develop ideas. As a response to that, TPG Develop offers a range of talks and workshops to help people between their 14 – 24 yrs, to learn more about the creative industries and the skills required to take the most of the opportunities within the same.
This group exhibition marks the first showcase of work from a TPG Develop’s group of young artists and presents a varied range of photographic approaches, from experimental to documentary photography. The themes explored encompass home and belonging, gender and body politics, the female gaze, urban and natural environments, cultural heritage and LGBTQ+ issues.
Metro was pleased to have supported the project in the production aspect, producing a number of prints on C-Type photographic paper, as well as Direct to Media UV Printing onto Adhesive Vinyl and wood, for the exhibition.
Throughout the exhibition, there will also be a programme of workshops and panels offering advice on how to generate and protect your ideas, including a talk on Thursday 4th July on Moving Into The Professional Industry: Next Steps After Your Degree Show, given by Metro Imaging’s Marketing and Partnerships Manager, Kate O’Neill.
Every element of Futureproof has been produced and managed by the participants, from conception and creation to marketing and display, foregrounding the importance of self-organisation and collaborative working, and highlighting the value of diversity of backgrounds and perspectives when exploring alternative routes into the creative industry.
