‘A Letter in Mind – The Art of a Journey’ exhibition

Following the huge success in 2014 of the innovative fundraising event ‘A Letter in Mind – The Art of a Journey’ by The National Brain Appeal, the event returns again this year to raise vital funds for The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, the UK’s leading centre of excellence for treating diseases of the brain, spine and nervous system.

Inviting artists of many genres to respond visually to a personal journey: whether emotional, psychological, real or imagined and using a humble white envelope as their starting point ‘A Letter in Mind’ has attracted over 250 entries this year. The resulting artworks which include paintings, sculptures, collages and sewn pieces, from a host of established and recognised artists sit alongside those of emerging names from the worlds of architecture, art and design, illustration, graphic design, film and the dramatic arts. Submissions have been received from Grayson Perry, Billy Childish, Catherine Goodman, Harry Pye, Natasha Kidd, Specials guitarist and professional artist Horace Panter, as well as architect Amin Taha, author/illustrators Polly Dunbar, Chris Haughton and Tim Hopgood, actors Joanna David, Phyllida Law and Kevin Eldon to name but a few.

All the finished works will be identically priced at £80 and sold anonymously at the exhibition in aid of The National Brain Appeal. The artist’s name and biography will be revealed at the end of the exhibition, with the aim to raise funds and awareness for neurological conditions through artistic questioning as patients at The National Hospital embark on their own personal journeys.

Metro is delighted to partner the event offering our flat-bed scanning services to reproduce all entries for the web gallery which can be viewed here.
