Developing: Photographs by Mary McCartney at the Lowry Gallery

18.03.2013

Metro is thrilled to once again work with renowned photographer Mary McCartney printing over thirty large-scale black & white bromide and C-type images for her latest exhibition ‘Developing’, which runs until 9th June at the Lowry Gallery, Salford.

McCartney’s images often allow glimpses into the world of celebrity and this exhibition contains previously unseen images of female cultural icons from the entertainment and fashion world or as McCartney describes them ‘radical women’. McCartney’s trust along with her creative chemistry manage to somehow unveil the passions and inspirations of some incredible women including Marianne Faithful, Gwyneth Paltrow, Vivienne Westwood, Helen Mirren and Beth Ditto to name but a few showing them often in personal, unguarded moments.

Michael Simpson, The Lowry’s Head of Visual Art and Engagement, comments: “The Lowry has been home to a remarkable range of artists and performers over the years – some of whom are featured in this exhibition.  Mary McCartney’s uncanny radar for charismatic subjects, anonymous or famous, means that this is a powerful selection of some of her best work”
